This outdoor musical instrument is a clever blend of two African instruments: the Sansa (thumb piano) and a marimba (xylophone). Using the diatonic scale and spanning two octaves (C4-C6), the 15 notes of the Sansa-Rimba are arranged as a traditional thumb piano with the scale ascending from the center outwards.
The Sansa-Rimba is built as standard with 'notes or keys' in plain aluminum; however, we can supply your instrument with all GRP notes if you'd like. When played, the two different materials give their distinct sound: the aluminum produces a bright, clear tone when struck, while the GRP is fast and punchy. We can supply the notes in anodized rainbow colors as a further alternative. Please feel free to get in touch for more details.
The notes of the Sansa Rimba have no wires or strings. They are individually and securely attached to a high-density polyethylene backboard below, which sits on black anodized aluminum resonators offering maximum vibration with incredible resonance and durability. Each resonator is individually capped with a polyurethane rain baffle. Finally, stainless steel security fixings deter vandalism and prevent the theft or removal of the instrument.
The instrument is designed for ground or surface installation but can also be wall-mounted if space is premium.
The Sansa-Rimba is easy to play and a perfect introduction to musical exploration and improvisation.
