Zoo's Sensory Garden Features 'Duo' Outdoor Xylophone
The Little Rock Zoo's new ‘Blue & You’ Foundation Sensory Garden opened this week and features a Duo Cupla Outdoor Xylophone from Percussion Play.
Considered one of Arkansas' greatest treasures, the Little Rock Zoo first opened in 1926, with just two animals, an abandoned timber wolf and a circus-trained brown bear. Today, the Zoo has grown to include more than 725 animals representing 200+ species, many on the endangered list including Elephants, Big Cats, Giraffes, Reptiles and Monkeys.
With new animal exhibits, special events and educational programs, the Zoo provides an ever-changing and recreational experience and now boasts a new accessible sensory garden and play area.
Fun and accessible for all, the new sensory-rich play area includes raised flower beds and wide pathways, play activities which specifically stimulate and engage the senses - encouraging visitors to touch, taste, smell, listen and play in a variety of ways.
The sensory garden features fragrant plants, opportunities for tactile play with water and sand, children’s art displays and outdoor musical instruments - including the Percussion Play Duo outdoor xylophone.
Children learn by doing and so all the activities are designed to encourage creative play in this special outdoor learning space.
The project was funded with a $144,000 Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas grant.
Little Rock Zoo were introduced to Percussion Play products by local representive Kim Edwards Kyle of Kyle Recreation, Inc.
